I started ridign more and going to places where I need to rely on navigation. The phone is okay, but I want a bigger screen just to see the map better. I saw a video about using an android tablet and setting it up like android auto, no idea how it works, but seemed to be practical. Is it worth considering this or just get a garmin like all the normal people?

Using a tablet can work well if mounted securely and weatherproofed, with offline maps and power supply handled but if you want reliability, especially off-road, a Garmin is simpler and built for it

Spending hundreds on a Garmin in 2025 is like paying extra for a flip phone because it's rugged. A budget Android tablet with offline maps and waterproofing does the same job sometimes better and doesn't lock you into clunky, overpriced Garmin ecosystems
