Gear Shifter for V-Strom DS250.

Hi everyone,

I have the V-Strom DS250, bought it last year August (2024). This is my first bike and I am new to the whole bike world, and what a lot of things in this new world. I bought myself a pair of Leatt 7.5 Hydradri boots. Not for the life of me can I ride with these, it feels like the gear shifter is too short for the boot to fit into. I have made the full adjustment to lift the shifter, hoping that my boot will then fit, but it doesn't. Does anybody have any advise or has anybody encountered the same issue?

The shifter obvously isn't made for that kind of bulk but try swapping the shifter, get a longer or aftermarket one, its a cheap fix and a way better fit.

Youre best move is probably to swap in a longer or aftermarket shift lever with more clearance or adjustability or maybe adapt your technique, by using the side of your boot or shift more from the ankle than the toe.

I agree but I'm not sure about the aftermarket option. I think he can stick to OEM since it's his first time owning a bike or something. Best we can do is lay out all the options for him and it's up to him whether he wants the aftermarket but I would personally not recommend it for a newbie.

Thanks for the input. Pardon me if my reply here is a bit ignorant, but as far as I could find there isn't a longer OEM shifter that will be a straight plug and play option for the DS250, but please if you know of one do post the link here so that I can look at that as an option. I was actually thinking (based on my answer above) to fabricate something using parts from the shifter that the bike came stock with. Let me know what you think of this idea.
