Regulator/rectifier water exposure are they really that tough

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced a regulator/rectifier failing due to water exposure. I got stuck in a heavy downpour last week, and it's got me questioning just how waterproof these components really are. Are they completely sealed inside, or just protected to a certain extent?

I'd really appreciate hearing if anyone's had one fail because of water, and what kind of signs you noticed before it went bad. I'm trying to figure out whether I should move mine or just let it be.

you know, they're tougher than you'd think, but definitely not invincible to water.
The biggest threat isn't just a single downpour, but repeated exposure or sitting in a spot where water collects.
I've had one go on my old bike after a few seasons of heavy rain riding. The first sign was the battery dying randomly or sometimes fluctuating voltage readings on a multimeter at the battery terminals when the engine was running. If you're concerned, it doesn't hurt to add a small splash guard or even relocate it if it's in a super exposed spot. Prevention is easier than troubleshooting charging issues down the road
