I know it's more of an adventure bike, but what are the capabilities for longer cruises? I'd be happy to get another set of tires for the road, but I'm interested in the overall comfort. Will I have a terrible time?

Not at all, you won't have a terrible time. Adventure bikes are actually pretty great for longer cruises. If you swap to road-friendly tires and maybe add a comfier seat or windscreen, you'll be surprised how well it handles...of cause comfort's subjective, but it's definitely doable

If you're expecting Gold Wing comfort from an adventure bike on long cruises, you're setting yourself up for backaches and regret....swap the tires, sure, but you can't out-tread a hard seat and wind fatigue

Even though the V-Strom is built as an adventure bike, its actually pretty comfortable for longer cruises. The riding position is pretty relaxed, and the suspension does a good job soaking up bumps. You won't have a terrible time at all, in fact, a lot of riders use their V-Stroms for long highway trips and find them reliable and comfy. Just make sure to adjust your setup a bit for your personal comfort, and you'll be good to go. Its pretty basic like that
